Nigella, also known as love-in-a-mist or devil in the bush, is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region and Western Asia. It belongs to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The name “Nigella” refers to the colour of the seeds, which are hidden inside the fruits.
Nigella orientalis owes its original appearance to its yellow flowers and erect fruit clusters, which resemble a crown in shape. Dried nigella looks great in bouquets, giving them an oriental and unconventional character.
