Briza Maxima, known as large or big quaking grass, shelly grass, blowfly grass, is a type of ornamental grass originally from North Africa and the Mediterranean region. Its flowerhead resembles a loose panicle with flattened spikelets. These spikelets look like little hearts that tremble in the wind, giving the plant its name. They also bear some resemblance to a rattlesnake’s tail, hence the English name rattlesnake grass.
