Platyspermum (Leukadendron platyspermum) is a captivating flowering shrub belonging to the genus Leucadendron. It forms part of the unique fynbos vegetation native to South Africa. The plant’s seeds are stored within cone-like fruits, yet they differ from the typical cones found on coniferous trees. Instead, Platyspermum seeds are flat and oval, resembling scaly discs, aptly earning the plant its English name, plate-seed conebush.
Loose dried Platyspermum cones can be used for wreaths, centerpieces, and other unconventional decorations.
