Ferns are a family of leafy plants that have been gracing the Earth for over 360 million years. With around 11,000 distinct species thriving worldwide, ferns can be found in a diverse range of habitats, from tropical rainforests to wetlands and rocky hillsides. Ferns exhibit a remarkable diversity in size and form, ranging from petite rock-dwelling species to towering tree ferns reaching heights of up to 20 metres. Unlike flowering plants, ferns reproduce via spores, dispensing with flowers and seeds. Their leaves are typically large and feather-like, emerging from an underground rhizome that serves as their subterranean stem.
The captivating preserved double fern features elongated, feathery fronds that gracefully divide into two branches per stem, true to its name. Preserved plants do not require any special care, however, in order to keep their colour and shape for as long as possible, you should follow these recommendations:
- do not expose them to direct sunlight. Colours fade in the sun and lose their attractive appearance;
- keep them away from sources of heat;
- avoid contact of preserved plants with water – do not water or spray;
- remember that preserved plants can break or become brittle, so handle them gently;
- do not use for outdoor decoration.
