Scabiosa stellata, also known as pincushion flower, Drumstick Scabious, ping pong or paper moon flower, is a beautiful ornamental plant from the Dipsacaceae family. It is native to Southern and Central Europe, as well as Asia Minor. It grows to 60-70 cm in height and forms dense clumps. It has characteristic flowers that are composed of many small, star-shaped petals. Scabiosa flowers can have different colours, such as white, pink, purple, blue, and yellow.
After flowering, the plant takes on a characteristic spherical head shape, which is 2.5 cm to 4 cm in diameter. Drying allows the scabiosa to retain its unusual shape. Dried and stabilized scabiosa is a wonderful decorative element. It looks great as a standalone decoration in a vase. It also looks beautiful in bouquets, in the company of other dried and stabilized plants.
Preserved scabiosa in mint colour will add freshness to decorations. It goes well with pastel colours.
